With eyes like two cold oceans
She watches the flickering star
Through the leafless branches
Of a fallen tree.
The drone of a single engine
Aircraft breaks the silence
As she looks down at her hands
Trembling in her lap like
Dogs in the throes of death.
She can see her bones through her skin
And all the lost stars inside her bones.
